Losers! Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Losers! weight loss contest Frequently Asked Questions.

What are the dates of the contest.
First Quarter dates: Start on January 1, 2015 and end March 30th.
Second Quarter dates: Start on March 30th, 2015 and end June 29th.
You can start later than January 1st, but we will end on March 30th.
You can join any time, but obviously you will miss some weeks of the contest.

Will my identity be kept secret?
Yes, you give us an alias that you will be listed by. Only percentage weight losses will be listed, not your weight.
At the end of your session you can "log out" for security, or just close the tab so when you come back you are logged in automatically for convience.

Who is it for?
The contest/support group for those of us that like a little motivation and competition in losing weight.

What groups will I be competing against?
It is divided into groups so that you will be competing with people that are similar to you. I picture three possible divisions so far.
1. Gender (so males would compete only with males, females only with females)
2. How much weight you have to lose to get to your ideal weight. examples:
a) over 100 pounds, b) 60-99 pounds, c) 30-59 pounds, d) 29 or less pounds.
3. Commercial weight loss programs, such as Weight Watchers, Nutra System, Purium, etc.
So a person that is simply trying to eat less, and/or exercise more would not necessarily be competing against a person on a commercial program.

Does it have a cost?
There is no monetary cost. But you may experience anxiety and/or euphoria depending on your results.

What are the rewards?
Everybody that loses weight is a winner, right? Weight loss makes you feel better in so many areas of life.
If you are a top loser, you get the kudos and thrill of seeing your "alias name" in print. :-)
If you know the person that wins, then feel free to drop them a line and congratulate them, or give them a gold star.

What do I need to know before joining?
If you decide to join, I would need you to go to our website to sign up and we need to know the following:
1. Current Weight. This is word of honor, so try to be consistent with your scale.
2. Ideal Weight. So in figuring out an ideal weight for statistical purposes only, please go to website:
Super Skinny Me
and key in your height, frame, and gender. It has a link to figure out frame size.
We will use the middle number of the range. Enter the range.

How do I join?
Go to the "Home" page and click on the "New Sign Up" button.

When and How do I weigh in, or report my weight?
Each Monday you will report your weight.
When the time for reporting is past, I will email out who are the winners for the week and overall so far.
The reporting times will be Monday, 4pm (16:00) Mountain time, 3pm (15:00) Pacific time, and 1pm (13:00) Hawaiian time.
The rest of you should be able to figure it out for your time zone.

What happens if I miss the cut off to report my weight?
You can still enter your weights, but they may not count for the "competition" that week.
If too many weights are missed, then the administrator (Lois) can eliminate the player if she desires. You can also email her any time to have your name taken out of the game.

How are winners determined?
The winners will be determined by weight loss percentages from Current Weight compared to "Ideal Weight."
Each week there will be a weekly winner, and a long-term winner in each category.
So if Person A lost 1%, and Person B lost 2% that week, then Person B, would be the winner for the week, but say last week Person A lost 8%, and Person B gained weight, then obviously Person A is still ahead in the overall weight loss category. The top Losers! in each group are listed. To be listed, you must actually lose weight (not gain or stay the same). Percent lost per day is based on where you started vs your ideal weight. Mathematically that is (start-current) / (start-ideal) / days.

I won't be in town on Monday
No, problem. Just record your weight before you go. Yes, you will be at a disadvantage having less days to lose, but it's only a game. When you come back you can keep going.

Can my friend join?
Please feel free to tell your friends about this and invite them to join. The more the merrier! And with more, we all win.

What if I have another question?
If you have a question, feel free to email me at: losers@loiscolton.com

Please get your friends to sign up.
Thanks, Lois
